Bob Fisher is the host and producer of the NBA's two weekly public affairs programs -- OBSERVATIONS Radio, now in its 15th year and airing statewide on 26 stations; and OBSERVATIONS Television, now in its 8th year and airing in Reno on 5 stations.

Presently Bob is, among many notable achievements, continuing to serve as President and CEO of the Nevada Broadcasters Association as he has over the past 17 years. Bob is one of the original members of the Nevada Homeland Security Commission and currently serves as the chairman of the Commission's Legislative / By-laws and Rural Counties committees.

Bob is also the founding clergy of Midbar Kodesh Temple in Henderson, where he has served as Cantor of the congregation for 10 years.

Notable Achievements

The 2009 Nevada Senate and Assembly unanimously passed legislation classifying trained and certified broadcasters as "First Responders" during an emergency. This first-in-the-nation legislation was introduced by the Nevada Broadcasters Association and received wide-spread statewide support. On May 22, 2009, Governor Jim Gibbons signed the legislation into law. Bob, together with his vice-president Adam Sandler, the Griffin Communications Group and Senator Valerie Wiener helped to shape this important landmark statute and to guide it through the long legislative process.

For two years, he served as Chairman of the National Alliance of State Broadcasters Associations (NASBA) DTV Transition Committee, working closely together with the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) in Washington, D.C. At the 2008 NAB Convention in Las Vegas, Bob was honored for "his continued excellence and dedication to the DTV Transition." For many years he has served on the planning committee of the annual NASBA sponsored National Emergency Alert System Summit held in Washington, D.C. Bob is also a former national president of NASBA.

Bob (together with NBA Consultant Engineer Adrienne Abbott) was instrumental in bringing AMBER Alert to the state of Nevada. Currently, he is the State AMBER Alert Coordinator and serves as the Chairman the Nevada AMBER Alert Review Committee. Nevada is one of a handful of states whose AMBER Alert is defined by statute. We are also one of the few states who established a felony penalty for any person who knowingly files a false law enforcement report resulting in an activation. On May 18, 2007, Bob was the first recipient of the "AMBER Alert Media Award" presented by the Department of Justice and the Attorney General of the United States in ceremonies held in Washington, D.C.

Bob has served on the Nevada Base Reduction and Closure (BRAC) committee which was successful in saving both the Reno Air Guard and the Hawthorne Army Depot from closure.

In the spring of 2010, Bob was honored by the University of Southern Nevada as a "Champion of Health Care in Education". He was also appointed to the Nevada Crime Commission by Governor Jim Gibbons.

Over the years, Bob has served on the board of directors of the Las Vegas Ad Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and served on the executive committee of the Chamber's Community Council for five years, including one term as president. He also was a recipient of the Chamber's "Circle of Excellence" award, and is a graduate of Leadership Las Vegas (1999).

Bob served for many years on the board of directors of the American Diabetes Association. For three years, he produced and hosted the award-winning "The Diabetes Show", airing in Las Vegas and Reno. At the time it was the only live, weekly Diabetes television show in the United States. For his advocacy and television work, he was honored by the Nevada Diabetes Association for Children and Adults. He award was presented to him by Nicole Johnson, Miss America of 1999, at an Evening Gala that was held in Reno.

Bob has been honored by Nevada Covering Kids and Families as "Outstanding Media & Communication Partner." He is especially proud of receiving the Distinguished Service Award from the Frederick Douglass Educational Fund -- "For being a tireless champion for empowering our Community through Media; Thank you for all that you do to ensure the positive, promising future of our Community."
